New Carts
The new recycling carts have been delivered throughout James City County as of Saturday, June 29. If you have not received a cart and have not yet reported it to James City County General Services, please call the recycling hotline at 757-253-6700.
Customers who have called in to report not receiving a cart, receiving too many carts, or not receiving the size cart they were hoping for, are being taken care of as quickly as possible. Recycling cart size exchanges will be handled in August. Please continue to use the cart size you currently have until then. It will be picked up and exchanged on your regular recycling collection day.
Old Carts
If you still have your old recycling cart, please leave it out alongside your new cart on your next regular recycling collection day and it will be picked up within 1-2 collection cycles.
Independence Day Collections
Please note that due to the holiday, the recycling schedule for July 4 and 5 will be delayed by one day. July 4 will be collected on July 5 and July 5 will be collected on July 6.
Opting Out
Customers can opt out of the Curbside Recycling Program or by completing the online form, sending an email to General Services at general.services@jamescitycountyva.gov, or by calling 757-253-6700. Please note that there is a high volume of phone calls on the recycling hotline and you may need to try your call later.
Customers who have opted out of the program will have their TFC carts removed in the next 1-2 collection cycles. Please leave your new, empty cart out on the curb for removal on your collection day.
Billing
Curbside recycling remains free of charge to James City County residents through Sept. 30, 2019 and residents are not billed for the cart. After Oct. 1 curbside recycling will be available as a pre-paid service, so the first quarterly bill will be mailed mid-August and will be due Monday, Sept. 16. The bill will cover services between Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2019 and participants will continue to be billed on a quarterly basis. Households that have not made their payment by Sept. 16, 2019 will be removed from the recycling program.
