Summer Camps Flash

We want to help you keep the summer full of fun! James City County is offering nearly 100 exciting camps this summer! Camps were are listed below by week offered, and then by age.

Week of July 1

Little Tykes Summer Camp • Ages 3-5
Monday-Thursday, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
$65; $60 for JC/W residents
James City County Recreation Center
A super fun pre-K camp with creative arts and crafts, outdoor play, music and interactive stories! Come join the weekly adventures! Children must be toilet trained. 700010-A

Week of July 8

REC Connect Summer Camp • For ages 5-14 (must have completed kindergarten)
Registrations accepted on a space available basis. Our licensed camps run Monday-Friday through Aug. 23, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. at 5 elementary schools: Clara Byrd Baker, J. B. Blayton, Laurel Lane (waiting list), Matoaka (waiting list) and Stonehouse and one middle school James Blair. Weekly fees: Full-time (4 or 5 days) – $115/week; $110 for JC/W residents and includes field trip fees. $10 discount is available for second and subsequent children in the same family attending full-time. Part-time (3 days or less) – $95/week; $90 for JC/W residents and includes field trip fees. Download registration forms online or pick up at the James City County Recreation Center, the Freedom Park Interpretive Center or Satellite Services in Toano. Nature in Your Backyard • Ages 6-9

Learn about the plants and animals in your backyard! We’ll explore a different aspect of nature each day, and will create our own field guide and make our own trail mix! James City County Parks & Recreation staff and the Virginia Master Naturalists will lead participants on nature walks and other fun-filled activities. Spanish Camp • Ages 6-9

Athletes Global Basketball Skills Training Camp • Ages 6-16

This camp will focus on shooting mechanics, one-on-one defense, scoring, ball handling, passing, mental preparation, fitness, conditioning, speed, agility training and much more. FORE! The basic fundamentals of golf are covered in this games-based approach to stance, swing, etiquette, sportsmanship, rules and competitive situations. Golfers will be divided up by age and skill level within the camp setting. Each camper will have hours of one-on-one development throughout the week. Virginia Legacy Recreational Soccer Camp • Ages 6-14

Revolving around soccer-related games, activities, trainings and competitions, this camp includes instruction on the fundamentals of soccer and is designed to meet the needs of beginner, developmental, recreational and advanced soccer players. All participants receive a Legacy Camp shirt and free soccer ball! Participants will be indoors and outdoors. The July 15 morning session will include an advanced training session for those who would like to participate. Full-day camps include use of the Center pool.

Mighty Girls Yoga Camp! • Ages 7-9
Monday-Thursday, July 15-18, 9 a.m.-noon

The focus of the Mighty Girls Yoga Camp is to help increase self-confidence while learning to grow in peace as you build strength and resilience from the inside out. We’ll learn the physical, mental and social benefits of yoga and mindfulness practices within a safe, cooperative, accepting environment. Explore individual, partner and group yoga poses in the beautiful outdoors of Freedom Park. Discover your strengths through journaling, meditation, yoga games and art activities. We’ll support each other as we learn about ourselves. We’ll collaborate on how to become agents of peace within the community and leaders in our lives. In this half-day adventure camp, campers venture from home base on a different local excursion each day. Each day brings a new activity including kayaking, rock-climbing, geocaching, biking and hiking all while learning about the historical and natural history that surrounds the area. Join us as we run, jump, move and laugh our way through this exciting fitness session! Kids will learn proper exercise movements, work on balance and coordination and increase flexibility and range of motion while improving stability and overall agility. Spend the week at the Jamestown 4-H Educational Center! Experience the best that camp has to offer. The days will be filled with traditional camp programs and activities such as swimming, boating (canoes/kayaks), nature, creative arts, target sports (archery/rifles), music, STEM and adventure! Campers will have a swim test on Monday. Only intermediate/advanced swimmers will be able to participate in boating on the James. All levels of swimmers will go to the pool daily. Learn about the many different species of wildlife and their adaptions for survival. Come explore land, water and sky to discover predator and prey relationships, habitat diversity and survival. This is a hands-on program in which campers get to collect, identify and study fascinating marine creatures up close and personal! Try seining on the James River, searching for tracks along the wetlands walkway or build a bird’s nest and discover how amazing our furred and feathered friends can be! Jamestown Beach Event Park
This SUP class introduces kids to a whole new way on the water! Paddleboarding is all about balance, so age is not a barrier to becoming proficient at this cool sport. We’ll teach kids all about Stand Up Paddleboarding from the anatomy of the board and paddle, how to paddle out, proper stance and paddling techniques all while learning water safety out on the boards.
