Learn to Swim, Free Swim Evaluations

There are individual registration periods before each swim lesson session. Registration for April/May classes is open April 2-12. Registration is accepted at the James City County Recreation Center and online. Having trouble deciding which swim level is appropriate for your child? Our certified Water Safety Instructor will be available 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 to provide free swim evaluations. Info: 757-259-4185.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Re-Certification • Ages 15+

Strengthening Families Program (ages 10-14 & their parents) Free!

Join us for this seven-week program that focuses on enhancing positive relationships and communication within your family. Parents and youth (one child must be between 10-14 years old; older siblings may also participate) meet once a week, with sessions consisting of skill building, social bonding activities, games, projects and working together. This evidence-based program has been shown to help youth effectively resist peer pressure and develop a positive future orientation; parents learn and practice limit-setting and nurturing skills. Infant & Child CPR and Choking Prevention • Ages 12+

This two-hour class teaches basic life support techniques for infants and children who are experiencing choking, breathing difficulties or heart problems. It’s ideal for parents, school children, grandparents, babysitters and other community members who might be in a position to help a child in an emergency. Joint Freeing Yoga Series • Ages 14+ Free!

Join us for a tour of some of our Virginia State Parks. Each trip will highlight a unique activity, excursion or program specific to that park. Trips are open to patrons ages 8+ (16 & younger must be accompanied by adult) and are available first come, first served. Preregistration is required at least one week in advance of trip date. Fees include transportation to and from trip destination and all park admissions, amenities and excursion fees. Bikes Out of Hibernation (all ages) Free!

If you’re looking for an opportunity to get your bike out of “hibernation,” from beginner to a “little rusty,” this is for you. Free safety inspections, assistance for minor adjustments, greasing and fitting, as well as fun rides to “knock the rust off” after winter. Fun rides of 5, 10 and 15 miles available on the Virginia Capital Trail. Rides will leave at approximately 15 minute intervals. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments provided. Offered in partnership with Williamsburg Area Bicyclists. Rain date is April 20.
