[ARCHIVED] Police Host VIN Etching and Child Safety Seat Inspection

vin etching

James City County Police Department will host a VIN etching and child safety seat inspection on April 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the parking lot of Target located at 4630 Monticello Avenue.

The VIN etching event is conducted in partnership with the Virginia State Police Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) program. The process uses a chemical to permanently mark glass, takes only about 10 minutes to complete and doesn’t affect the appearance of the vehicle. This process creates an obstacle for potential car thieves in that VIN etched glass must be stripped and replaced before a criminal can sell a car.

Virginia law requires children under 8 to be properly secured in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat, regardless of weight or height. This Child Safety Seat inspection station will help parents and caregivers ensure that the child fits securely in the safety seat and that the seat is safely secured in the vehicle.

Both programs are free and open to the public.
