logo

The James City County Comprehensive Plan is in the policy development stage of the update process. The Planning Commission Working Group (PCWG), which consists of the full Planning Commission and one member of the Community Participation Team (CPT), is tasked with considering the citizen comments collected by the CPT along with staff’s research, statistics, and reports on the various sections of the County’s draft 2035 Comprehensive Plan to develop policies and create the actual final Plan text, goals, strategies and actions.

The PCWG has scheduled the following meetings and topics for the month of January. All meetings will be held in Building F of the James City County Government Center, 101 Mounts Bay Rd., and will begin at 4 p.m.

• Jan. 15 – Land Use Applications (Descriptions for LU-0001-2014, LU-0005-2014, LU-0006-2014, and LU-0009-2014), Transportation and Final Review of Sections (Vision Statement, Demographics, Population Needs, Community Character, and Parks and Recreation)
• Jan. 22 – Final Review of Sections (continued) and Preparation for Joint Work Session
• Jan. 27 – Joint Work Session with Board of Supervisors – Transportation and Land Use Applications/Descriptions

A 15-minute public comment period will be available at the beginning of each PCWG meeting. For all meetings, each member of the public will be permitted to speak for up to three minutes. If there are additional members of the public who wish to speak, a second public comment period will be held at the end of each PCWG meeting. Comments can also be sent in writing prior to the meeting to be distributed to PCWG members.

The Comprehensive Plan is the County’s master plan for guiding future growth. It is reviewed every five years and is used to evaluate development proposals and guide the decisions of County departments over the next 20 years. It covers all aspects of the community, and the 2035 Comprehensive Plan review will specifically focus on economic development, transportation and land use.

For more information about the Comprehensive Plan review, call the Planning Division at 757-253-6685 and/or visit jamescitycountyva.gov/comprehensiveplan for updates. If you would like to leave a comment about the Comprehensive Plan, please call the hotline at 757-259-4990 or attend a PCWG meeting. Meetings will be broadcast live on JCC TV, Cox Cable Channel 48 and online at jamescitycountyva.gov/jcctvlive and rebroadcast on Community Channel 46 the Wednesday following each meeting at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
