[ARCHIVED] Crews Respond to Early Morning Fire

UPDATE - Aug. 28 1:15 p.m.

Two crews remain at the scene and are conducting the final cleanup. A total of three firefighters were transported to a local emergency room for heat-related symptoms. Two have been released and one remains in the emergency room for observation. An additional firefighter was evaluated and treated for a minor foot injury.


On Aug. 28, the James City County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at 2:57 a.m. reporting a house fire in the 300 block of East Landing in Kingsmill.

Units from the James City County Fire Department arrived at 3:06 a.m. and found fire through the roof of a three-story residence. The occupants exited the home safely prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. The fire was marked under control at 5:49 a.m. The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety and the City of Williamsburg Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Two firefighters were transported from the scene to a local emergency room and are in stable condition. The incident was declared under control at 5:49 a.m., but fire crews are remaining on the scene to conduct extensive overhaul. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the James City County Fire Marshal’s Office.
