James City County Fire and Police units were dispatched to the report of three teenage juveniles needing assistance on the ice of a lake in the Kingsmill subdivision on Feb. 26 at 4:51 p.m. The lake is located in the area of Macaulay Road. James City County Fire personnel arrived on the scene to find officers from the Kingsmill Police Department assisting two of the teenagers off the ice. The third teenager had fallen through the ice beside a dock and was able to remove herself from the ice due to her close proximity to the dock.
The two remaining teenagers were located on the ice approximately 10 feet from the shoreline and were unable to move as the ice around them was beginning to break and fill with water. The Kingsmill officers had brought with them a vehicle tow rope and threw it to the teenagers; removing them from the ice one at a time. As one of the teenagers was being removed he fell through the ice and was removed from the water by a Kingsmill Police officer. The last teenager was removed from the ice without falling through. The three teenagers were uninjured and were escorted home by the Kingsmill Police Department.
