[ARCHIVED] James City County Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Car Crash

James City County Police Department patrol vehicle

On June 21 at 11 a.m., James City County Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 4300 block of John Tyler Highway. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling east on the Highway when the truck crossed the oncoming lane of traffic and drove off the left side of the roadway, striking a tree. The truck was driven by 58-year-old David Eugene Lake of James City County. Lake was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt, but neither speed nor alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

John Tyler Highway remains closed in the 4300 block until crews can remove the struck tree, which was identified as a potential hazard to motorists due to the damage caused by the crash.
