At approximately 9 p.m., on March 5, James City County Police responded to the 7200 block of Merrimac Trail in reference to a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle. The victim who was identified as Frank “Frankie” William Evans, 52 of JCC was pronounced dead at the Riverside Doctor’s Hospital in Williamsburg. Evans was struck by a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old Newport News heading east on Merrimac Trail as he was walking across the street going from the 7-Eleven store to the Cambridge Apartments. The driver who was not injured in the crash indicated that he did not see Evans until it was too late. Evans was reportedly wearing all dark clothing at the time he was hit. Speed, weather conditions and alcohol were not a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
