James City County Police Marine Patrol officers attended the 9th Annual Search and Rescue Forum March 2-6 in Hampton. The Forum was hosted by the United States Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads and the Port of Virginia Maritime Incident Response Team. Participants completed classroom lessons, practical exercises, two nighttime exercises and one daylight exercise in water-borne incident response scenarios.
JCC Police Marine Patrol officers were recognized during an awards ceremony at the end of the Forum where they received the “Most Improved” team award. During the first nighttime exercise, in heavy fog and deteriorating weather conditions, the team experienced navigational equipment failure. During the second nighttime exercise, they were able to recover from these setbacks and were the only team that was able to locate the missing vessel.
