[ARCHIVED] Sweethaven Lavender of Williamsburg Begins Planting

Sweethaven Lavender Farm

Sweethaven Lavender Farm of Williamsburg (Sweethaven) has planted their first lavender plant on their newly established farm located at 2301 Jolly Pond Road. Sweethaven will open to the public for U-Pick lavender in 2019. The farm totals more than 100 acres and will be another agritourism attraction in the County once it opens. Sweethaven is the first lavender farm in James City County.

Sweethaven is owned by Kerry Messer. In addition to U-Pick lavender, Sweethaven will have a farm shop and will sell an organic skincare line, artisan-made gifts and antiques. In the future, Sweethaven will host occasional weekend festivals including sunflower and lavender events.

On Saturday, April 28, Sweethaven held their first planting day. Volunteers helped plant more than 5,000 lavender plants by hand. If you would like to help Sweethaven, they will be hosting additional planting days including tomorrow, May 2 and this upcoming Saturday, May 5. Information is available on their Facebook page.

“We are excited to begin growing Sweethaven and bring an agricultural use back to previously farmed property,” said Messer. “We hope to plant an additional 10 acres each year including different varietals of lavender that can be used in an assortment of applications.”
