[ARCHIVED] High Wind Alert Issued for James City County

Campfire

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Alert for James City County until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13.

Due to a combination of southwest winds gusting 25-30 miles per hour and low humidity levels of 30-35%, there is an increased risk of fire through the afternoon and early evening. Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, cigarettes and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any fire that ignites in dry grasses or tree litter will have the potential to spread quickly.

All Virginia residents are further reminded that open burning is prohibited before 4 p.m. each day through April 30.
