The Williamsburg Winery recently announced that three of their wines have received awards.The 2015 Limited Release Norton was awarded a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines. A Double Gold means that the judging panel unanimously voted that the Norton was worthy of a Gold medal. Only 551 wines out of 6,960 entries received this distinction.The Norton was a Wine Club exclusive wine and has red and dark fruits mingled with perfumed wild flowers. There are notes of vanilla and cocoa.Their 2015 Limited Release Tannat was awarded a Gold Medal and 91 Point “Exceptional” Rating by the Beverage Testing Institute in its most recent Regional Wine Review. The 2015 Limited Release Tannat was a Wine Club exclusive wine and is filled with notes of ripe berries, cherry and a hint of dried fruits. There are cocoa and cinnamon spice nuances and light notes of vanilla come through along with a touch of tea and cola. Tannat is a grape varietal and the Williamsburg Winery will be planting over two acres of Tannat at Wessex Hundred this spring.Additionally, their 2016 Limited Release Petite Fleur dessert wine received a Gold Medal at the International Wine Competition Winemaker Challenge. The Petite Fleur dessert wine is a sweet blend of Vidal Blanc and Moscato and delivers intense tropical fruit, peach and apricot notes with hints of flowers and honey. The 2016 Limited Release Petite Fleur is available for purchase online.The Williamsburg Winery is over 40 acres of vineyards, an on-site garden, a hotel and two restaurants, Café Provencal and the Gabriel Archer Tavern, all set on Wessex Hundred, a 300-acre farm. The Winery opened in 1988 and is open year round. There are numerous sites on property for group tastings, weddings and private events.
