[ARCHIVED] Publix Announces First Store in Hampton Roads


James City County is pleased to announce that Publix Super Market plans to open at 4660 Monticello Avenue in the Monticello Marketplace. This will be the first Publix store in Hampton Roads. Publix has opened two stores in the Richmond region and has three more opening in the coming months. The James City County location was formerly a Martin’s Foods and closed on July 10, 2017. The store is approximately 69,000 square feet. An opening date is forthcoming.

The first Publix opened in 1930 in Florida and the company has grown to more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast. Publix is the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States and one of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the country. In 2016, retail sales for Publix reached $34 billion.
