On Oct. 23 at approximately 9:23 p.m., James City County Police responded to the Burnt Ordinary Apartments in Toano to the report of gunshots. Police arrived and located two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds in the 7900 block of Sterling Court. Adren Raheem Garnett, a 20 year old County resident, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported by medics to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The second victim, an 18 year old County resident was transported by medics to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital and then transported by helicopter to Riverside Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Preliminary investigation revealed that both victims were involved in a dispute with several individuals which escalated to gunfire. Police believe that more than one individual fired a weapon. Numerous shell casings were recovered at the scene. The rear of the building at 7801 Weymouth Court and at least two vehicles were struck by bullets. Neither victim was a resident of the apartment complex where the incident took place.
