[ARCHIVED] September is Virginia Spirits Month

Distillery

September is Virginia Spirits Month. Virginia is the birthplace of American spirits and there are numerous distilleries throughout the state that produce spirits including 8 Shires Distillery.

Formerly, the Williamsburg Distillery, 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery is a small craft distillery in James City County at 7218 Merrimac Trail. The mission of 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery is to research, preserve, teach and present the history of distillation from the Colonial American Period, the years 1600 – 1775. All of their spirits are hand-crafted using historic recipes and ingredients of the 18th century.

8 Shires Coloniale Distillery offers Genever Gin, Silver Rum and Gold Rum. They also produce limited edition bourbon. The next bourbon release will be in 2019. The products of 8 Shires Coloniale Distillery have received awards at the New York International Spirits Competition, Los Angeles International Spirits Competition, the American Distilling Institute and others.

8 Shires Coloniale Distillery is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-8 p.m. and has tours as well as tastings.
