James City County’s Clean County Commission is hosting the 2nd Annual Litter & Recycling Expo on Saturday, Oct. 24 from noon-4 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Rd. The Expo is free and open to public and attendees can come and go throughout the event.
This year’s Expo will showcase how our litter prevention and recycling efforts can improve soil quality and promote healthy habitats. Craig Coker from Organics Recycling will speak about “Improving Soil Quality” at 1 p.m. Guest speakers from the Virginia Living Museum will bring live animals and give a talk called “Animal Friends!” at 3 p.m.
The Expo will include interactive displays and activities for all ages plus giveaways, recycling and litter pickup video games, a children’s activity corner, photo booth, soil sampling, trivia wheel and more.
The Clean County Commission will display its results from their participation in the Keep America Beautiful Cigarette Litter Prevention Program. Additionally they will promote upcoming activities and education initiatives for America Recycles Day (Nov. 15).
The Clean County Commission organizes a number of reoccurring programs throughout the year including the County-Wide Spring Cleanup, the Good Neighbor Environment Grant, the Quarterly Clean Business Forum, the Adopt-A-Spot program and a variety of environmental education and outreach initiatives.
