It is estimated that more than 9.9 million people are victims of identity theft every year. One of the most successful ways of preventing identity theft is by shredding documents that contain personal information these thieves use. Join James City County Police Department for a Shred-A-Thon on Oct. 10 at the Williamsburg/James City County Courthouse at 5201 Monticello Ave. 9 a.m.-noon.

The first grocery bag of documents will be shredded at no charge and each additional bag will be $5. Proceeds will benefit the 5th annual “Shop with a Cop” program assisting underprivileged children and families in James City County.

If you have questions about this event, please contact Officer Todd Dill at 757-603-6025 or todd.dill@jamescitycountyva.gov. Fight identity theft while helping a child have a happy holiday.
