James City County real estate and personal property taxes will be processed more efficiently and quickly due to a new banking process called lockbox. Tax payments received by the County Treasurer’s Office will be sent directly to SunTrust Bank in Baltimore, MD. Payments will be deposited into the County’s bank account the day they are received. The new procedure will be in place beginning with the next round of personal property and real estate tax bills due Dec. 7, 2015. Bills will include the new address.
This processing option is used by many localities in Virginia. “It is an ongoing initiative to make our process more efficient,” says James City County Treasurer Jennifer Tomes. “Typically, staff would receive payments, process each one and then send them out for deposit. With lockbox, we’re making deposits quicker as well as making it more efficient for the taxpayer and the County.” For any questions regarding the lockbox implementation or the payment of tax bills, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 757-253-6705.
