June 2, 3, and 4, 2017 have been designated as Free Fishing Days in Virginia. No fishing license of any kind will be required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater, on these days. Plan some time to go fishing and boating; take the family fishing and boating or learn to fish and boat!
There are a variety of places to fish in James City County and you can also fish at York River State Park. A great location with tons of different fish is Little Creek Reservoir Park.
Pier Fishing
Boat and pier fishing is available at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park and Powhatan Creek Park.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park’s pier is open 24 hours a day. Little Creek Reservoir is 996 acres and is a fisherman’s paradise! Powhatan Creek Park is available for use 24 hours a day and has 5 fishing piers.
Boat Fishing
Boat fishing only is permitted at Brickyard Landing and Diascund Reservoir Park. Diascund Reservoir is provided and operated jointly by Newport News, James City County and the Division of Game and Inland Fisheries, and is open to the general public for boating access and fishing.
Bank Fishing
Bank fishing is available at Jamestown Beach Event Park.
York River State Park
Fishing is aplenty at York River State Park as well. With access to the York River from Croaker Landing, there is a boat launch dock and a 360-foot fishing pier. There is also fishing available in the park on Taskinas Creek and Woodstock Pond using kayaks, canoes, paddleboats and jonboats.
