According to the Department of Justice, an estimated 17.6 million Americans were victims of identity theft in 2014. One of the most successful ways of preventing identity theft is by shredding documents that contain personal information thieves use. Join James City County Police Department for a Shred-A-Thon on March 25 at the Williamsburg/James City County Courthouse at 5201 Monticello Avenue, Williamsburg, 9 a.m.-noon
The first grocery bag of documents will be shredded at no charge and each additional bag will be $5. Proceeds will support the Department’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event and other community outreach and crime prevention programs. “Shop with a Cop” is a program assisting underprivileged children and families in James City County.
Fight identity theft while helping a child have a happy holiday.
