On Sunday, Jan. 29 just after 5:00 a.m., James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 199 near the intersection of Brookwood Drive. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Dodge pickup truck was traveling westbound on Route 199 when it crossed the median, left the roadway and hit some trees on the eastbound side of the road causing it to roll over on its roof. The driver, 27 year old Michael Thomas Ott of Middlesex, was transported to Riverside Doctor's Hospital and pronounce dead on arrival.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is believed to be a factor.  The crash remains an active investigation.
