[ARCHIVED] Grants available for maintenance of neighborhood drainage systems

Broken drain

Private property owners and homeowner associations (HOAs) with damaged drainage systems have a new opportunity for financial assistance through the James City County Neighborhood Drainage Maintenance Grant Program.

The Board of Supervisors approved the new grant program in April 2015 to promote the maintenance of privately owned drainage systems for the safety and general welfare of all County residents.

Grants of up to $50,000 are available for mapping, inventory, inspection, maintenance and repair of neighborhood drainage systems.

Neighborhood drainage systems include structures such as inlets, pipes, vegetated or paved swales and outfall structures which manage storm runoff within a neighborhood and outside of the roadways. Drainage systems within a roadway are not included in this program.

Applications are available online and are due by Jan. 8, 2016.

Interested property owners and HOAs are invited to attend an application workshop on Dec. 3, at 6:30 pm, at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Rd. Pre-registration is required by calling 757-259-1443. Assistance is also available by phone 757-259-1443 or email
