17 things in 2017

With each new year, there are new things to look forward to and the things happening in James City County are no exception.

Here are 17 things we are looking forward to for 2017:

  1. The anticipated opening of Billsburg Brewery at the James City County Marina will happen in 2017. They recently shared some pictures of their future tasting room on Facebook and it is something to be excited about!
  2. InvadR opening at Busch Gardens – this new wooden coaster will be in the New France area of the park near the Log Flume and the Train Station. It includes a 74 foot drop and will be the first wooden coaster in Williamsburg!
  3. Skippy’s SnoBalls Williamsburg will open in the spring in the former Queen Anne’s Dari Shack.
  4. The 2017 Kingsmill Championship – tickets are on sale now. We love championship golf from the LPGA and we’re happy the ladies will be back in town!
  5. The release of the Williamsburg Distillery’s bourbon barreled rum in July 2017. Real bourbon barrels and craft rum made in James City County!
  6. The newest special exhibit at Jamestown Settlement – “Pocahontas Imagined” kicks off on July 15. This special exhibit will highlight Pocahontas’ legacy and how it came to be known.
  7. The return of great events such as the Winter Blues Jazz Fest, Glow Williamsburg and so many more!
  8. We know that 2017 will bring more baby animals at Fox Wire Farm Alpacas. In January, there will be new baby pigs and in April, there will be baby alpacas. If you’ve never been on a tour, the spring is a great time especially before the annual shearing event when their wool is super dense (and very impressive.)
  9. We enjoyed celebrating food holidays in 2016, and are looking forward to continued celebration of holidays like Pie Day, Chocolate Day and Bacon Day. We will continue to share tips on where you can get fix a craving for these food holidays!
  10. New reserve and vintage releases from the Williamsburg Winery!
  11. The return of the special events at Busch Gardens Williamsburg including the Food & Wine Festival, Bier Fest, Howl-O-Scream and Christmas Town. All of these events are so much fun!

  13. More memories at York River State Park (YRSP). This state-owned park has more than 30 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails, which allow visitors to explore the marsh, river shoreline and forests. YRSP also has a boat ramp, fresh and salt water fishing spots, a fishing pier, playgrounds and picnic shelters. Seasonal boat and recreational equipment rentals are available. Make sure to check out the YRSP event calendar for activities such as guided hikes and stargazing.
