In one of the first emergency incidents in 2017, James City County Fire and Police Departments responded to an early morning vehicle accident on New Years day. When firefighters arrived, they found a single vehicle had struck a tree on New's Road and was on fire, with the driver trapped in the car. As firefighters contained the fire, the driver was quickly rescued from the vehicle with paramedics beginning immediate medical care. The 21 year old williamsburg man was flown by the LifeEvac 3 helicopter to the VCU medical center trauma and burn unit in Richmond where he was listed in critical condition.
