Citizens are invited to bring up to 10 paper or plastic grocery bags or 5 file boxes of documents to be shredded. Computer disks, binders, laminated paper and other non-paper materials should be removed from boxes prior to the event. Staples, rubber bands and paper clips do not need to be removed. The event is set up like a drive-thru with stop and go service; volunteers will be available to assist with unloading boxes. Please note that shredding may not be completed on-site. Due to the popularity of this event, please be prepared for the possibility of long lines and wait times. Proceeds from the Shred-A-Thon will support the Department’s annual Shop with a Cop event and other community outreach and crime prevention programs. Shop with a Cop is a program assisting underprivileged children and families during the holidays in James City County. Fight identity theft while helping a child have a happy holiday.
