Celebrating the Virginia Capital Trail
Pedal your way through the Virginia Capital Trail with color surprises at every turn! Add a little color to your day pedaling round-trip from Chickahominy Riverfront Park to your “Color Pit Stop” of choice. Make tracks riding this beautiful scenic fall trail as a family or at your leisure. Load up your bike, wear your white T-shirt and get colored at “color pit stops” along the way, featuring refueling stations of water, healthy snacks and recreational fun. Roll at your own pace and distance.

Color Ride Facts
  • The color packets distributed at check-in/color stops are made of high quality cornstarch and food dyes. All materials are 100% FC&C and/or D&C grade and approved by the US FDA. However, product is not designed for consumption.
  • Color powder from packets wash out of most clothing; however, it can stain some materials. 100% cotton clothing is recommended and typical machine washing with stain remover, removes the stains. It’s recommended to remove excess powder from clothing before washing or applying water.
  • The Color Fun Powder Canons used at color stops are filled with water-soluble rice powder.
Ride Options
  • Family Fun Ride: 0.5 mile mark (1 mile ride)
  • Green Ride: 2 mile mark (4 mile ride)
  • Blue Ride: 4 mile mark (8 mile ride)
  • Red Ride: 7 mile mark (14 mile ride) and return to Chickahominy Riverfront Park for
  • Gold: The finisher color!
Register your bikes and get bike safety checks by the James City County Police Department. Be sure to checkout all the other biking/community vendors available onsite as well!

Please make sure your bike is in good working order and don’t forget your helmet!

Registration for event includes:
  • Highlighted map/cue sheet
  • Event T-shirt (100% cotton)
  • Refreshments at the “color stops” (rest stops)
  • 1 color packet for Color Zone Celebration (earn more at color stops by completing activities)
  • Lunch at Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Park amenities
Facilities at this 140-acre park include an outdoor pool, a boat ramp, fishing pier, driving range, playground, picnic shelters, a small store and access to the Virginia Capital Trail. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available. If interested in staying the night, a variety of campsites are available, if needed.
