This project involves the demolition of the existing boat sheds at the James City County Marina. An October 2022 report titled the Structural, Plumbing and Electrical Condition Assessment by Pace Collaborative and Liberty Engineering found that the two boat sheds were in an unsatisfactory condition and recommended repair by replacement as the most feasible and economical alternative. Given the hazards associated with the boat shed condition, the County decided in late November 2022 that demolition should occur as soon as possible.
The work is part of the approved VHB site plan dated October 22, 2021. The project is funded with American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Bids were received in January 2023 and the contract was awarded to the lowest bidder at $188,500 to Kokosing Industrial, Inc. in February 2023. Work began in March 2023 and was completed ahead of schedule by the mid-May 2023 without incident.
