The purpose of official James City County social media accounts is to provide information regarding the County’s activities, programs and services of public interest to residents, businesses and visitors.
James City County values the First Amendment and we encourage you to share your thoughts, questions, and reactions. However, we ask that you limit your comments to the topics presented. We also ask that you be respectful and courteous in your comments, avoiding personal attacks and vulgar and abusive language, and that you comply with this James City County Comment Policy.
We recognize social media is a 24/7 medium, and your comments are welcome at any time. However, given the need to manage our staff resources, we generally only monitor comments and postings during regular business hours.
Please note these are moderated online discussion sites and limited public forums. Comments are retained as public records.
James City County reserves the right to remove comments that contain:

Closing comments: James City County reserves the right to close comments at any time as social media platforms permit.
Blocking or Banning: If there are three or more comment violations by one user within a 90-day period per County account, then James City County reserves the right to ban user participation on that County account for six months if the platform permits blocking.
Deleting Comments: Decisions regarding the restriction or deletion of content will be made by the Communications Office with consultation from the County Attorney.
Platform rules: Social media platforms may take their own action to remove comments or ban users based on the platform’s policies, not James City County. James City County is not responsible for those actions.
Training: James City County is accountable for the actions taken by staff responsible for social media content. We are committed to providing regular training to staff in First Amendment law as it pertains to free speech.
