The goal of the Stormwater Division to ensure that the collection and control of stormwater within the County adequately protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens. Within James City County, many streams are degraded as a result of stormwater runoff from development. Stormwater runoff is associated with all improved properties in the County, whether residential or nonresidential, and the downstream effects of runoff are directly related to the amount of hardened (impervious) surface on a property. Stormwater management efforts provide benefits to all properties within the County through control of runoff and protection of the natural environment.
