Drool in the Pool
Saturday, Sept. 14, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
$10/dog or FREE with completed PAWS-port
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Let your canine companion enjoy the dog days of summer with a dip in the pool! Philip Newbery of WMBG Radio AM 740 will be spinning tunes to keep the mood festive! All dogs must be properly registered and vaccinated. Info: info@heritagehumanesociety.org. Proceeds benefit the Society.

 

Williamsburg Dirt Festival
Sunday, Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Freedom Park
Join us for dirt bicycling activities designed for all ages, levels and abilities. Youth activities, bike safety workshops, bike skills course and clinics and a series of mountain bike races featured. Info: williamsburgdirtfest.org.

 

Harvest Festival
Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
$3/car parking (cash/checks only please)
Come enjoy the Harvest Festival - local musicians, arts and crafts activities, your favorite festival foods plus carnival games, moon bounces, a hayride and so much more featured! Grab lunch provided by the food vendors and visit the local craft and business vendors.

 

Scarecrow Stuffing is a featured activity of the Harvest Festival! $15/scarecrow (includes all supplies). Make this a family activity and create one together. Freedom Park

REC Connect

Before & After School 2013-2014
Registration is underway! The program is available to youth ages 5-14, enrolled in grades K-8. The program runs through the end of the school year and is held Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. until school start and school dismissal to 6 p.m. The before and after school program is offered in all WJCC elementary schools; an after school program only is held for middle schools students at Berkeley (Toano and Hornsby students are transported to Berkeley). Buddy Baseball is provided in partnership with the Williamsburg Youth Baseball League. Players are assisted by one-on-one volunteer buddies, who make it possible to adapt play to individual player needs. Leagues determined by age groups. Registration fee is $20. Kayak Mini-Camp (ages 8-12)

Stand Up Paddleboarding (ages 14+)
Sunday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Lessons cover all the basics as well as safety, strokes, balance and include a shorter tour. All ESSENTIAL gear provided-SUP board, paddle, personal floatation device and leash. Why should the kids have all the fun? Join Chesapeake Experience for Adult Kayak Camp! Paddle Powhatan Creek, the Chickahominy River and other local kayaking hot spots. Activities also include guest speakers on environmental topics, netting, water and quality comparisons. Meet at the Center each morning with transportation to sites provided. Women’s Mountain Bike Ride (all ages and abilities), Free

Ladies, join the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association’s (EVMA) Dirt Divas on a woman’s-only mountain bike ride! Explore the trail system at Freedom Park, meet fellow female riders in the community and learn the ins-and-outs of mountain biking. Tagging Monarch Butterflies, Free

Aquatics
Learn To Swim
Open registration held through Sept. 6. After you have successfully passed a class, you can register for the next level during this two-week open registration period. If you’re unsure of your or your child’s swimming needs or level, attend one of the FREE swim evaluations on Tuesday, Sept. 3 or Wednesday, Sept. 4, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.
