Special Events
Destination Recreation Expo, Free!
Saturday, Feb. 23, 9 a.m.-noon
James City County Recreation Center
Your one-stop-shop for everything Parks and Recreation has to offer! Discover your parks and facilities, learn about all the classes and programs offered throughout the year and be one of the first to register for summer camps – sign up for your favorites plus some new and unique opportunities! We’ll keep your children engaged while you gather information about our programs as well as those from our affiliate organizations. Informational booths, interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, raffles and discounts for camps, classes and facilities featured!

Capture the Theme
Calling all amateur photographers! Come explore Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway, in this monthly photo contest! Share your park experiences through monthly themes and then submit your favorite shots for a chance to win prizes. Winners chosen monthly. February Theme: WOOD. REC Connect
Annual registration for Summer Camp 2013 and the 2013-14 Before & After School Programs is underway. Forms can be picked up at the Centers and Satellite Services in Toano or downloaded from jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation. Forms must be returned by mail; no drop-offs can be accepted. James City and Williamsburg residents can mail in their completed forms now. Nonresidents can apply starting Feb. 10. Fees include annual registration plus weekly activity fees. A variety of art activities offered based on participant ages, ability levels and interests. Each class features activity stations and a special project based on the week’s theme. Get Taken for a Ride (ages 7+)
Monday, Feb. 18, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Stonehouse Stables, 2116-A Forge Road

Bellydance Costume Workshop series (ages 13+)
Decorating and embellishing
Saturday, Feb. 16, 1-4 p.m.
$25; $20 for JC/W residents
James City County Recreation Center
Learn to make and decorate various pieces of the bellydance costume. We’ll discuss styles and fabrics and make patterns to fit your exact measurements. Bring a measuring tape, scissors, notebook and pencil. No sewing experience needed.

Tot Shots (ages 3-5)
Saturdays, Feb. 9-March 9, 10-10:45 a.m.

Time to lace-up your basketball shoes and play some ball. Learn the basics of basketball through games, drills and relays. This class is designed to introduce children to the sport in a fun atmosphere.  Info: jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation or call 757-259-4200.

 

Floor/Broom Hockey (ages 5-7), New!
Saturdays, Feb. 16-March 9, 2-3 p.m.

Indoor Tennis (ages 5-8), New!

Dance
Bellydance FUNdamentals (ages 13+)
Mondays, Feb. 4-25, 7-8 p.m.

Ever thought about learning to bellydance, but don’t know where to start? We’ll learn a new set of FUNdamentals in each class that work together to create this unique style of dance! No dance experience needed. Info: jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation or call 757-259-4200.

 

Beyond Beginners Bellydance! (ages 13+)
Thursdays, Feb. 21-March 28, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
$40; $35 for JC/W residents

Time to put those bellydance steps you’ve learned to good use! Join us as we work our way through a new choreography in each session! Aquatics
Learn To Swim Programs
Open registration held Feb. 6-15. After you have successfully passed a class, you can register for the next level during this two-week open registration period. If you’re unsure of your or your child’s swimming needs or level, attend one of the FREE swim evaluations on Tuesday, Feb. 12 or Wednesday, Feb. 13, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.
