Norge Train Depot Restoration
Scope of Work
The Norge Train Depot was built in early 1900’s by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. The restoration is comprised of three phases. Phase I was the relocation of the Depot from the original location on Peach Street to the JCC Library site on Croaker Road. Phase II consisted of the exterior restoration of the Depot. Phase III will consist of the interior restoration, roof replacement and site improvements. The project involves coordination with several community organizations such as the JCC Historical Commission, the Williamsburg Regional Library, the Ruritan Club, and local professionals who have volunteered their services. Coordination with the VDOT Local Assistance Division, CSX and the Virginia Department of Historical Resources were essential project elements. The Norge Train Depot was funded using VDOT SAFTEA-LU enhancement funding. The enhancement grant provided 80% federal funding for the restoration and required 20% local and in-kind matching funds.
