Need Weekend Plans?

  • Don’t know how to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Check out our list of ideas for gifts, local dining specials and events. There are some events this weekend.
  • Want to catch some music locally?
  • Celebrate Black History Month with a Black Settlement Presentation and Book Signing at Freedom Park on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 3-4 p.m. Join Col. Lafayette Jones Jr., a descendant of those that lived on the Free Black Settlement at Freedom Park for a presentation and book signing. You'll experience 18th century life more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.  This event is free.
  • Have a tyke? Take them on the Tyke Hike on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 2-4 p.m. at York River State Park. Join York River State Park for a hike devoted to kids from 2 to 5 years old.  A friendly ranger will guide you and your new hiker along our shoreline and wooded trails.  This hike will lead to two shorelines along the York and cross a footbridge across a small marsh.  Discover the plant and animal life with your child.
  • Take the kids to a Kid's Night Out Valentine’s Party on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Artfully Yours Studio. This is for children ages 6 and up. The cost is $30 for the first child and siblings are $25. Kids are in for a fun night of games, prizes, craft making, card making and yummy Valentine’s Day treats! A pizza dinner is also included. Extra staff will be on hand so that all ages can participate in age appropriate crafts with plenty of assistance. Please indicate your child's name(s) and age(s) when signing up! If your child has a food allergy, please let Artfully Yours Studio staff know in advance. This will be a peanut-free event.  
  • Join the Virginia Peninsula Astronomy Stargazers for a night of wonder and discovery at York River State Park on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 5:30-11:45 p.m. Away from the city lights, the broad cliffs above the York River are perfect for observing constellations, planets, and other features in the night sky. There is no fee for this program.
  • Catch some laughter at the Comedy Club of Williamsburg on Saturday, Feb. 10 beginning at 8 p.m. Damon Sumner will be performing. Sumner’s style could be described as a blend of Jim Gaffigan and Kevin Hart. His act focuses on his challenges as a young dad and an under-achieving husband, his adventures as a teacher and so much more!

Community Events

  • Drop the kids off at a Parents Night Out at the WISC on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6-10 p.m. This event includes challenges in The Zone including Capture the Flag and activities with the Clip N Climb and Laser Maze. Pizza dinner is included and the café will be open. This is for children ages 4-12. Cost is $25 for the first child and siblings are $20. Register online.
  • Morrison Dental Group is hosting Give Kids a Smile 2018 on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. This is a day of free dental care for children 18 and under who are Medicaid eligible or come from low income families without dental insurance. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering or would like to schedule an appointment for your child.
  • Stop by and meet dogs that are ready for adoption from the Southeast German Shepherd Rescue at Tractor Supply Co. on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Learn about adopting, fostering and volunteering.
  • Attend the annual Pretty in Pink Sweetheart Gala on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Double Tree by Hilton from 6:30-11:30 p.m. This year, the Right On Band will perform and the event has a 70s theme. This event will benefit Beyond Boobs. Tickets are $65.
  • Meet the Williamsburg Regional Library’s Sphero robots on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2-4 p.m. at the James City County Library. Test drive these programmable robots and discover how they can teach you coding, math, science and more.
