Applications for Addition to the Agricultural and Forestal District Available

Pates Neck AFD map

James City County is accepting applications until April 15, 2018 for property additions to the Pates Neck Agricultural and Forestal District (AFD) in advance of the district’s renewal in August 2018. A map showing the location of the County’s AFDs may be found here.

All other AFDs are scheduled to renew in October 2018 and will proceed on a separate timeline. Notification regarding applications will be made early in 2018.

An AFD is a district containing one or several contiguous parcels that will be used for agricultural and forestal purposes. Benefits of enrolling include assurance that most AFD land qualifies for use-value taxation, protection of land against developmental pressure and protection against nuisance ordinances. More information about AFDs is available on the County’s website.

Existing property owners enrolled in the AFD will be notified of the renewal and may modify, renew or terminate without penalty membership in the district.
