James City County operates 3 Convenience Centers for recycling and trash disposal. The Convenience Centers accept the following recyclable materials:

*Brush, electronics (excluding flat screen monitors,CPU's and laptops) and tires will require coupons. Appliances made of 50% metal or more and all other recyclables listed here are free to drop off.
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
For proper compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) disposal, please use our Household Chemical Collection Program at:
Warhill High School
4615 Opportunity Way (off Centerville Road).

Additionally, both Home Depot and Lowe's locations nationwide offer free CFL recycling, including our nearest locations at 6700 Mooretown Road and 801 East Rochambeau Drive in Williamsburg.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers comprehensive instructions for how to clean up after a CFL breaks with separate instructions for breaks on hard surfaces, carpeting or rug, and clothing, bedding, and other soft materials.

Used Medical Sharps Disposal

For proper used medical sharps disposal, please follow these instructionsDo not put sharps containers in the recycling bin.
