Watershed Flood Study
As part of the coordinated efforts between Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the County, a flood study of the Powhatan Creek Watershed has been completed to better define flood risks in this area of the County. The County’s flood map information had not been updated in over 30 years. The County submitted revised flood maps to FEMA in February 2013 to begin the process of updating the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) to incorporate this more recent information.
This process, called a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR), was completed on March 6, 2014. On that date, the maps developed during the LOMR process officially revised the County’s FIRMs for the Powhatan Creek area. The new LOMR mapping information is included on the FIRMs that are currently being revised for updated coastal flooding impacts.
