Commendations/Complaints

If you wish to make a commendation or complaint about the actions of a police officer or about any aspect of police operations, please come to the Law Enforcement Center located at 4600 Opportunity Way, and request to speak with someone about the commendation or complaint. 

A police supervisor will ask for details regarding your commendation or complaint.  If you are making a complaint, the supervisor will assist you in filling out a complaint form. This form asks you to identify yourself and to provide specific details about your complaint. Your complaint will then be investigated. You may be contacted later and asked additional questions.

You may also call the Police Department at 757-253-1800 and tell the person answering the phone that you would like to make a commendation or complaint.

Please include specific details explaining your commendation or complaint.

Response


If your complaint requires a long period of time to investigate, you will receive a letter explaining approximately when you may expect a reply. When your complaint has been investigated, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and send you a response advising you of the disposition.
