What We Do

  1. Emergency Communications

Our 911 center is a vital link for all Police, Fire and EMS responses in James City County. Over 100,000 calls for service are processed by our dispatchers each year.

  2. Emergency Management

The Emergency Management Division coordinates the County's plan for and response to severe weather such as hurricanes and winter storms, emergencies at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant and other emergency events. The Division is located at the Emergency Operations Center which it maintains in 24/7 operational readiness. The Division administers all related emergency management programs, projects and functions.

  3. Emergency Medical Services

All Firefighters are cross-trained in emergency medical services, and every ambulance is staffed around the clock with at least one advanced life support provider.

  1. Fire Suppression

The Fire Department responds to all hazards in the wide variety of settings that make up our community.

  2. Special Operations

Special Teams work under the Operations Section to provide specialized responses to a variety of hazards. Some of these teams function collaboratively on a regional, state and federal level.
